The Harmac mill is a three line Northern Bleached Softwood Kraft (NBSK) pulp mill located on the east coast of Vancouver Island near Nanaimo, British Columbia. The mill is one of Canada's largest market pulp producers with a rated capacity of 400,000 annual metric tons.

The mill produces high quality kraft pulps made from custom blends of Douglas fir, western hemlock, balsam and western red cedar. The pulp is sold in Europe, North America, the Pacific Rim and Latin America. With its strategic location on a deep water port, the mill is well situated for cost effective export of pulp and receipt of wood fiber.

The mill has about 530 employees most of whom are represented by the Pulp, Paper and Woodworkers of Canada Local No. 8. Harmac enjoys an excellent working relationship with the union.



Harmac R

A blend rich in Douglas fir with the balance western hemlock/balsam fir. This is an exceptionally high tear/tensile pulp that is used in papermaking processes where superior strength and good drainage is very important.

Harmac M10

A western hemlock/balsam fir blend which is a high tear/high tensile pulp with good optical and surface properties.

Harmac M10C

A blend of western hemlock/balsam fir and western red cedar. This grade is a finer fibered pulp with enhanced optical and surface properties, high tensile and tear strength.

Harmac K10

A blend rich in western red cedar with the balance hemlock/balsam fir. This grade is a specialized pulp that combines high tensile and tear strength with a closed smooth sheet.

Harmac K10S

A pure western red cedar pulp which is the ultimate in fine fiber softwoods. It is a specialty pulp with the lowest coarseness available worldwide.
